What’s included on your ‘Just Jane’ Lancaster Standard Taxy Ride?

The standard Lancaster taxy ride experience takes place on some Saturdays and Bank Holidays. On these days you book a time for your taxy ride, (there are usually three time options on each day) and we ask you to arrive at least an hour and forty five minutes before your riding time. You are welcome to come to spend the whole day at the Centre. This experience lasts around 45 minutes.

A typical schedule for a Lancaster Taxy Ride Experience

Our standard tail down taxy rides are usually on Public Holidays and some Saturdays. You enjoy the only chance in Europe to be inside a Lancaster Bomber with all 4 Merlins running. We place guests enjoying a ride in a variety of positions inside including the rear rurret; Middle Turret; Radio Operator's seat; and Bomb aimer's position. The sound of the 4 Merlins alone has a profound effect on any one who is the least bit interested in the Second World War. The safety briefing will begin an hour and a half before your taxy ride time. You will have the tour of the aircraft and the taxy ride itself which lasts around 15 minutes. Each guest has a certificate to take home signed by the pilot.

There is also the opportunity for you to buy a photo of yourself sat in "Just Jane" taken by our resident photographers A&K Markham. 25% of all purchases is donated to the 'Restoration of Just Jane'. They also offer a service to frame your photo along with your certificate while you wait. Arrangements can be made with Kay or Alan on the day of your ride.

Wow

I can honestly say that for a few minutes whilst the Lancaster was taxiing and with my eyes turned to the inside I was 20,000ft….. it was 1944 ….. and I was flying on a mission over Germany!  I doubt whether there is anywhere else in the world that could have provided that feeling.

Worth the wait!

Just to say a big thank you for a great day. I have waited 60 years to have that ride and it was amazing.
