Sat 12th September 2009 saw our annual Dogfight between a Spitfire and Bf-109 at East Kirkby. This year we increased the size and quantity of pyrotechnics for the show creating a bigger and more effective 'airfield attack'; element to the show.
The day started off well with the Spitifre arriving at 12.45 with a low pass and 'spitfire-esk' approach to the landing strip. Cliff Spink was the pilot, a very experienced and ex-raf pilot (Air Marshall Cliif Spink CB CBE FCMI FRAeS RAF Ret'd).
As usual we had two Lancaster taxy runs on the day piloted by Flt Lt Mike Chatterton who has now just flown out to operations over Afganistan.
The Bf-109 (a Merlin Powered Me-109) made an arrogant entrance at 3.00pm attacking the control caravan and setting off a course of pyrotechinis as our gground gunners bravely fought to shoot it down whilst the scrambling Spitfire took off and gained height.
