Engine test run

15 February 2013

First engine run after winter maintenance

Following the winter maintenance of the 2012 season we have progressed to a stage of running the engines on the Lancaster ready for our 2013 season.

Number 1 engine had been removed to allow work on the starter mechanism and reduction gearing and the prop had been sent for overhaul so it was imperative to have it checked and run in enough time to allow any 'tweeking' to take place.

All of the engines have seen some work over the 2012 winter and after having stood for 3 months without running it was likely that we would encounter a few niggling problems.

Number 1 started perfectly, not even turning a blade before it struck up however there was a slight Mag fault that would be easily remnedied.

Number 2 stuck up and ran very sweetly (photo below by Silksheen photography)

Number 3 again ran every well.

Number 4 was fuel primed but developed a fuel leak so was not run.  At the time of writing this news the leak has been fixed and it is ready to run this week.
