16 January 2024

Join us for a special opportunity to have a Bomber Command and Dambusters day with historian and author Chris Ward.

What’s included on your Bomber Command & Dambusters Tour and lunch with Chris Ward 16th Jan 2024?

Join us for a special opportunity to have a Bomber Command and Dambusters day with historian and author Chris Ward.  After 30 years of research Chris is a walking, talking encyclopedia of Bomber Command having written 29 full wartime histories for Bomber Command Squadrons and he's also written more about the Dambusters than anyone else.

Your day will include admission to the Centre with morning coffee on arrival at 10am.  You will meet with Chris who will take you on a tour focused on the history of Bomber Command and its squadrons.  The tour can to a certain extent be bespoke to the group's interests so it is ideal for anyone undertaking research into family members or particular squadrons.

Chris has discovered crash sites of some of the Dam's raid aircraft during his research and can talk extensively about the raid.  At the Centre we have a Barnes Wallis bouncing bomb, Guy Gibson's control column from his Dam's raid Lancaster, a Dann bomb site, one of the marbles used during Barnes Wallis's trials and also parts of crashed Dams raid Lancs so we are ideally positioned for him to be discussing the details of the famous raid.

After your tour you can take lunch in the NAAFI (included in your experience) during which you can chat further to Chris Ward.  After lunch Chris will take a question and answer session for any further enquiries you may have.  You can complete your day with a further look around the Centre.

This is a must for any one interested in the Dambusters raid.  If you are researching a particular squadron or family member please let us know in the comments section when booking.  Chris Ward has written profiles on the following squadrons:

9, 10, 35, 44, 49, 50, 57, 75, 83, 101, 102, 103, 106, 115, 138, 207, 300, Polish (301, 304, 305) 460, 467, 514, 619, Australian (455, 458, 462, 464), Dambusters 617 Squadron.

Numbers for the tour are limited so pre-booking is essential.
