55,573 Painting unveiling

We would like to invite you to join us for the unveiling of a very special painting at the Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre.  The painting, which had previously been located at the RAF Club in London, is now located in our NAAFI following the period building's extensive 15 month refurbishment and extension.  The painting is back lit through the canvas creating a very spectacular image of a bomber crew.  The frame is painted in the same type of paint which was used on Lancaster NX611 during its repaint in 2017.  Set within the frame are poppies collected from the poppy drop by Lancaster PA474 the City of Lincoln during the unveiling of the Bomber Command memorial in June 2012 which provided the initial inspiration for the painting's commission.  The official unveiling of the painting "55,573" will take place in our new NAAFI on Friday 6th February 2026 at 2pm.
